Energy Safe Victoria is warning the community about an impersonation scam involving fake letters falsely claiming to be from our organisation.

The letters claim the recipient has committed an offence under the Electricity Safety Act 1998 and threaten penalties such as fines or prosecution if urgent action is not taken.

These letters are fraudulent and appear to be an attempt to solicit work and/or steal personal information.

Scammers are using the Energy Safe logo and branding to make the letters look authentic.

Energy Safe will never:

  • Threaten to cut off residents’ access to power
  • Direct a resident to upgrade their switchboard
  • Issue a letter with no recipient or sender contact details

What to do if you receive a letter

If you receive correspondence claiming to be from Energy Safe and are unsure if it is legitimate, do not make any payments or provide personal information.

Instead, contact us directly to verify the request. You should email complaints@energysafe.vic.gov.au(opens in a new window) and include a copy of the letter.

Our team will confirm whether the letter is genuine and advise you on next steps.
