AS/NZS 5601 changes

There have been significant changes to the gasfitting standards that affect persons carrying out gas installation work.

Consult the Standard

The Gas Safety Act 1997 requires a person carrying out gasfitting work on an appliance or gas installation to ensure their work complies with the prescribed standards, unless they have obtained an exemption from Energy Safe Victoria.

Additionally, the Gas Safety Act 1997 requires a person who carries out work on certain gas installations to apply to Energy Safe for acceptance of the gas installation before it is commissioned. We will only accept a gas installation if it complies with the prescribed standards, unless an exemption applies.

AS/NZS 5601.1 and AS/NZS 5601.2 are the prescribed standards under regulation 14 of the Gas Safety (Gas Installation) Regulations 2018.

Amendments to the Standards are automatically adopted under the Regulations when published and become legally enforceable from that date.

Energy Safe and the Building and Plumbing Commission (formerly the Victorian Building Authority (VBA)) strongly encourage practitioners to consult the complete standard to ensure they comply with all current Means of Conformance requirements.
