Incident reporting and site preservation consultation

We sought feedback on draft guidelines. The Decision Paper on Incident reporting and site preservation is on this page.

New rules to preserve sites of serious energy incidents

These rules apply for electricity suppliers and gas companies.

From 16 May 2024 new duties came into effect requiring electricity suppliers and gas companies to preserve the site of incidents they report to Energy Safe Victoria in certain circumstances.

We sought feedback on draft Incident reporting and site preservation guidelines to assist electricity suppliers and gas companies to understand and comply with their duties.

Submissions closed Monday 11 March 2024.

Major electricity companies (MECs) (which are electricity suppliers) should also refer to the MEC incident and safety performance reporting guidelines – see: Electrical Safety Management Schemes

Those guidelines set out additional detail about how MECs must report serious electrical incidents to Energy Safe.

Outcome – Decision paper and statement of reasons

Our final incident reporting and site preservation guidelines were informed by the feedback from stakeholders received via public consultation that occurred over February and March 2024.

Our decision paper and statement of reasons summarises the feedback received in submissions and our response:
